Book Review- Horse Dreams
I had the pleasure of reviewing Horse Dreams, Backyard Horses by Dandi Daley Mackall with my daughter Taliah. Together we read this delightful tale about a girl who is crazy about horses. Ellie James is a 9 year old girl who has prayed for a horse for years. She has also tried crying and begging but quickly realizes that will get her nowhere. Through an odd turn of events a horse seems to find her.
As a Mom I liked Ellie’s take on prayer she has faith that God hears her yet she knows that sometimes her prayers are not necessarily without selfish motives and while she struggles with the right way to pray she knows that God is interested in hearing from her. She admits that she doesn’t always remember to include God in her day but always tries to talk to him before bed. It is an honest look at a growing relationship. Ellie’s walk isn’t perfect but who’s is, it makes for a great conversation with your young reader.
Taliah decided to do a vlog entry about the book here is her debut…
We thoroughly enjoyed this read!

Talia is such a joy to watch in that video clip. She reminded me of my daughter Rose – cheerful, friendly, bold, and sweet.

Thank you Leah, she has always been a treasure to me but as she grows older I see a dear friend emerging in her, Anne of Green Gables would call her a kindred spirit.

Hi Cheryl! First off, thank you for your comment on my blog…I am encouraged by them 🙂
I am so glad I found this post. I have a daughter that is almost 10, loves horses, but hates to read. I am hoping that I can find this book for her at the library today. I think it may actually be a good book to get her involved in reading. I like that it incorporates God into it also. Always a bonus 🙂
I can’t wait to dig around a little more in your blog! Have a great day!

Wow! What a wonderful job Taliah did on the video. I can’t tell you what it does for me, as the author, to peek into such a rich mother-daughter relationship and to be allowed in for a bit. Thanks so much for reading Backyard Horses!
Blessings, Dandi
