Proverbs 30: 7-9
Two things I ask of you, O Lord;
do not refuse me before I die:
Keep falsehood and lies far from me;
give me neither poverty nor riches,
but give me only my daily bread.
Otherwise, I may have too much and
disown you and say, ‘Who is the Lord?’
or I may become poor and steal,
and so dishonor the name of my God.
So often I am tempted to pray for the easy life. I want to be comfortable and have nice things, yet the times when I am dealing with the tough stuff of this world are the times I grow in character the most. Again I am impressed by the wisdom of asking for what we need not more or less. This doesn’t mean that we will get everything that we want or that there won’t be times of want we live in an imperfect world, the trick of it is for us to get to the place where we can truly ask for only our daily bread and really mean it.

I love these verses. My husband and I use them as a sort of theme verse for dealing with our finances – we've prayed them a lot.
