PPPHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhh! That is the sound of me exhaling. We finally received Joel’s MRI results. Here it is in the radiologists own words; “The previous tiny focus of enhancement at the anterior aspect of the fourth ventricle is no longer seen.”
Yeah!! What ever it was it isn’t there anymore!! Praise God!!
He goes on to say, “There is minimal linear enhancement along the right aspect of the surgical cavity, likely representing post surgical changes/ gliosis. No evidence of nodular enhancement to suggest recurrence or residual disease.”
Gliosis is basically scar tissue.
I have to say there is definitely something surreal about reading about your child’s brain. It is also really weird to look at images of his brain. I don’t think I’ll ever get use to it.
I am not sure if I have answered this question already, if I have sorry for the review, so, here it is.
Is Joel in remission, is he cured???
To properly answer this question I asked his case nurse. Her answer was, “Those are terms we don’t like to use.” Basically, they like to see the kids get to 5 years out from treatment. Is he cancer free? It certainly looks that way. Honestly, we don’t know what the right term is but we are calling Joel our survivor!
Still no hair but I think it won’t be much longer and this time it will be for keeps!!

Praise God he is a survivor! I recall the 5yr rule from when my aunt had cancer. She was an older woman but made it many years after & did not die of cancer. I'll pray Joel makes it to be an old man LOL!
