I would still classify myself as very new to crocheting, but have had some fun with various projects, making headbands and purses etc. I wanted to make a scarf for my Dad and couldn’t find a pattern I liked so I decided to just make my own, if you are new to crocheting this would be a great project. Or if you are just wanting to whip up a quick scarf here you go.
ch = chain
sc = single crochet
hdc = half double crochet
dc = double crochet
Okay I did my scarf in two colours but you could use more if you wanted to.
Colour A
make a chain the desired length of your scarf
Row 1 (turning ch) ch 1, sc in each ch stitch
Row 2 (turning ch) ch 2, hdc in each stitch
Row 3 (turning ch) ch 3 dc in each stitch
Colour B
Row 4 (turning ch) ch 3, dc in each stitch
Row 5 (turning ch) ch 2, hdc in each stitch
Row 6 (turning ch) ch 1, sc in each ch stitch
Repeat Colour A and B until your scarf is your desired width.
I left a few inches of yarn each time I switched colours and then worked my ends in to the scarf. You can end there or you can add a single knot fringe to the ends.UPDATE: Just occurred to me that I neglected to mention hook size I used a ‘I’ 5.5 mm, with medium yarn (4) worsted. Depending on how bulky or thin you want your scarf you could change things up and it would still work.
Happy Crocheting!
