Tough Day
Today was a tough day for Joel. He didn’t sleep well last night. He is still having the intense abdominal pain. He is vomiting at least once an hour if not more. He had radiation, chemo and GoLYTELY (GoLYTELY is a bowel cleanse pronounced go lightly). Yesterday they inserted a NG tube, (A nasogastric feeding tube, or “NG-tube”, is passed through the nares (nostril), down the esophagus and into the stomach.) The GoLYTELY is administered through the NG tube. Joel seems to have some blockages… for lack of a better term… and he is vomiting a fair amount of the GoLYTELY some is passing through but he is having an extremely rough go with it.
It is hard to watch him suffer through this and not be able to help him. I am not sure why but they are not giving Joel any pain meds. I’ve been told when he is finished with the GoLYTELY if he is still experiencing pain then he can have some meds for pain. He is sleeping a little right now I am hoping he gets some well deserved rest tonight.
I ‘ve had to sneak food as Joel isn’t allowed to eat or drink anything he is being hydrated through his IV. I feel totally guilty eating in front of him. I almost feel like a little kid trying hard not to get caught with my hand in the cookie jar.
Please keep Joel in your prayers that he would get some relief from all his abdominal pain. Thanks again everybody.
A Long Weekend....

poor kid what a rough go of it..I'm assuming you're still in the hospital now, not in Ronald McDonald house? Will be praying for the both of you..A lot of pain medications can cause constipation, and can slow down the movements of the bowel, so that is probably why they aren't giving him any…though I'd think there would be SOMETHING they could give him…hope this is over soon for him and that he can recover enough to go home for the weekend.

I'm so sorry Joel has had such a bad day. I'm praying he will have much better days ahead and his abdominal pain will subside…
