Tonight, I am feeling weary. We can all feel weary from time to time. What makes me weary might not make you weary. It could be stress, finances, family difficulties, it could be physical or emotional. For me I think it is a bit of emotional and physical.
I live a funny life full of blessings and hard stuff all intermingled together. I have a busy family full of energy and life. There is never a dull moment. I am married to my best friend, we have a strong marriage.
I have a little boy fighting cancer. I hold his hand as he goes through painful pokes. I watch him struggle to do things that are so simple and effortless for his peers. We go to physio, occupational therapy, doctor appointments, tests, hospital stays and visits. Yet, he is here.
I have a beautiful sweet little boy, who snuggles in close and coos. He gives us the cutest little smiles, but he is not sleeping through the night yet, and he spits up what seems like half of his feeds, making copious amounts of laundry. Amazingly he is gaining weight.
I have 6 beautiful children all with needs and wants. They need hugs, cuddles, help with school, direction with chores, some one to listen to them, some one to read just one more story…
I have the never ending laundry pile, meals that need making, chores that need doing, lesson plans that need to be made. Lately it feels like there will always be more things to do than there are hours in a day.
I am weary, not unhappy, I am tired, not defeated.
I just want to rest I want to slow down I don’t want to run back and forth to appointments anymore. I just want to stay home with my family and not be rushing from one appointment to the next
That isn’t reality though, life is going to be busy for the next while. So what can be done???
Am I alone?? Are you ever weary??
Good news, there is rest for the weary, if you are like me sit back and let these verses sink into your soul.
My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest. -Exodus 33:14
I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety. -Psalm 4:8
Be still, and know that I am God. -Psalm 46:10a
My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken. -Psalm 62:1-2
My soul is weary with sorrow; strengthen me according to your word. -Psalm 119:28
When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. -Proverbs 3:24
As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you. -Isaiah 66:13a
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. -Matthew 11: 28-31
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. -John 14:27
My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. -2 Corinthians 12:9
I am going to slow down and spend some time at my Lord’s feet being quiet and resting in Him if only for a few minutes because at any moment someone could be calling me. I hope if you are weary you will spend some time with the author of peace.
