I was thinking it has been awhile since I shared some of my thoughts on what I have been reading in my Bible. I thought I would share a little today. Lately I have been hanging out in the Psalms. Of course, you all know that I love the verse in Jeremiah. I love how God has themes that show up over and over and over again. Right now I feel like God is taking me on a journey to really discover what it means to walk the Old Path.
I have been working on a memory verse with the kids from Psalms. Psalm 25 verse 4 and 5 to be exact.
“Show me your ways, O Lord,
teach me your paths
guide me in your truth and teach me,
for you are God my Savior,
and my hope is in you all day long.”
Notice the part about, ‘your ways’ and ‘your paths,’ well this has become the cry of my heart to be guided in His truth and taught His ways!!! Then today I was reading in Psalm 128.
“Blessed are all who fear the Lord,
who walk in his ways.
You will eat the fruit of your labor;
blessing and prosperity will be yours.
Your wife will be like a fruitful vine
within your house;
your sons will be like olive shoots
around your table.”
Sounds good to me. Who doesn’t want for their labors to be fruitful. Now some will argue that being fruitful means lots of babies this is probably partially true but I thing there is more to it than just that. Do you ever feel like you are barely hanging on going through the motions? Have you ever heard yourself say something like this, “everyone survived the day, I fed everyone and we made it.” I know when I have had the flu or a bad migraine that is exactly how I feel. What about the days when nothing can shake you, the puppy pees on the floor, you burn supper yet you remain up, full of hope and full of life. You are that fruitful vine, when you walk in His ways.
Incidentally I found two pictures of olive shoots one has more mature trees around it and the other younger shoots. I always love to understand the analogies used in the Word. I find it brings understanding to the passage.
I think I resemble the older tree… not the big lumpy holey part but I am closer to that number of shoots with my 5! I can’t even count the number of shoots around those trees!!! So that is me trying hard to follow after God while doing my best to follow His lead On the Old Path. I can say without a doubt that I want to be that fruitful vine for my family.
